The sun-centered model of the universe as proposed by Copernicus was not immediately accepted because it challenged the religious dogma that had influenced in the middle ages due to the fact that this dogma required the earth to be in the center and the man of god's creation as a unique event only on earth, so if helio-centrism was to argue that would relegate the man and the earth to a less important aspect of the universe.
