Because you like to? By the sounds of the question, you are looking for a non-fiction response to fiction. Imagine if everything that I have read was fictional with zero relevance to reality, what value would your reading efforts really be for you? Even most of the fiction people read belongs to the real, the value, the bearing of the non-fiction parallels with the real life and for that reason serves a purpose [or important] for people to read.
