The weaker rocks are eroded more quickly, forming bays, while the harder rocks form headlands. Softer rocks eroded at rates of over 2 metres a year, more difficult rocks can be eroded at rates as little as 0.001 metres a year. As promontories that jut out into the sea, are more easily attacked by the wind and the waves.
