Why did the Hutus in Rwanda hold a deep hatred for the Tutsis?

This hatred dates back at least to the times of the colony: the Tutsis were favoured by the colonial power (Belgians) and there was the concept of wealthy Hutu to become "honorary Tutsi". The Tutsi were also a minority: they were a powerful minority and the Hutu were less powerful than the majority. This influenced the aversion to the Hutus were of the Tutsi.
