The bourgeoisie was referring specifically to the middle class, and, literally, is a term for those people who live in the city. This group came to be during a time of industrialization and the lead capitalism led to new heights. We have found for the first time the term in the Middle Ages, around the eleventh century, as cities began to emerge, and it became a popular term in the centuries that followed.
