I think the answer is: the author of The character is a created personality distinct from the author.Person is, basically, how a certain character is being perceived by readers. An author could control the character of a person that reveals both your actions and your thinking. The person does not necessarily represent the author's true personality, but without doubt represent the character that the author sees as necessary to move the story forward.
