The part of an atom, which is actively exchanged or shared in a chemical bond is ELECTRON.An atom is composed of three sub particles which are the electron, the proton and the neutron. Protons and neutrons are in the nucleus of the atom and which constitute the great mass of the atom. The electron is outside the nucleus and orbit around the nucleus; has negligible mass. The electron has negative charge and because it is located outside of the nucleus, which is the one that is always involved in chemical reactions. There are different types of chemical bonds in chemical compounds and it is the electrons that are normally used to form these bonds. During bond formation, the electrons can be donated or shared.
