The formation of Cations takes place when an atom ( mainly Metal loses electron(s). While an Anion is formed when an atom ( mainly Non-Metal) accepts or gain of electron(s).Example: Na + Cl → Na⁺ + Cl⁻ → NaClIn Above reaction of the valence electron of Sodium (2s1→2s⁰ + e⁻) is transferred to the Valence Shell of Chlorine (3p⁵ + e⁻ →3p⁶), resulting in the formation of Na⁺ and Cl⁻. These two oppositively charge of the Ions attract each other and form Ionic bond.
