The question that we are asked to find the function in vertex form is equivalent to f ( x ) = 4 + x^2 - x-2. We have to add 1 to make a square of binomial ( and also to subtract 1 ). f ( x ) = ( x^2 - 2 x + 1 ) - 1 + 4 = ( x - 1 )^2 + 3. Then we have the vertex at the point ( 1, 3 ). Answer: The function in vertex form is: f ( x ) = ( x - 1 ) ^2 + 3.
