Prior to the mid-1990s, an SAT score of 1590 corresponded roughly to an IQ of 170, a figure that has been quoted frequently by the press. The following year saw the release of the MITS Altair 8800 based on the Intel 8080 CPU, and Gates and Allen saw this as the opportunity to start his own computer software company. He had talked about this decision with his parents, who were supportive of him after seeing how much Gates wanted to start a company. (Wikipedia)
