When is Father’s Day Celebrated in the U.S.?

Each country has its own traditions and holidays. Sometimes the same events are celebrated on various dates depending on the place you live. This year is the first time I will spend with my father in the U.S. but I suspect that Father’s Day celebrations are held on a different date. What exactly is Fathers Day weekend in this country? I hope I haven’t missed it yet with all the moving issues in my head. I’d like to wish a happy Father’s Day in a new place and make this first holiday here memorable.

You are right on time! The Father’s Day weekend is actually this upcoming weekend. So, you still have little time to buy a present and bake a cake. The holiday is actually celebrated on the third Sunday of June every year. So, in 2018, it will be on June 17. It follows the Mother’s Day celebrations that are appointed to May. This way, each parent gets their own time to be honored and appreciated by their children. I like how the holidays are separated and will be followed by Children’s Day soon enough. This way, the whole family has time to appreciate the contribution of each member to the general happiness. We all have our part to play and it is always good to know that you are appreciated.

You may find that the USA Father’s Day celebrations differ from some countries out there. Here, we honor not only our biological father but every father figure we have in our lives. So, this is a holiday for all men who influence somebody’s lives. Though this holiday is not very popular in many countries, here, we are very enthusiastic about Fathers’ Day.

The gifts are pretty standard: cards, ties, tools, a tasty dinner, and so on. Most importantly, we value the time spent together with the family this weekend. There is no greater gift for a father than a fishing trip with a son or a peaceful day with his daughter. It is even better when all children come home for the holiday and just relax sharing funny family stories. For me, every year has at least one weekend when I neglect all other stuff and just come meet my father for a day spent outside. If your dad is more outgoing, you can invite him to go to a bar or take a car ride.

All in all, no matter what you actually do this day or what gift you buy, your attention will make this Father’s Day happy for your dad. You just have to spend some time with him.

I hope you find our way of honoring our fathers to your liking. There is nothing fancy like parades and fireworks, but we have picnics at parks and some theme decorated places in some cities. Browse the web for any events taking place near your home and you may be surprised to find something interesting to attend together.

In addition, the previous few years have resulted in a massive commercialization of most holidays, Father’s Day is not an exception. Today, the stores are flooded with the marketing goods screaming at the customers to buy them is they want to be a good son or daughter. Personally, I find it a bit much for such a holiday. Most dads are indifferent towards any theme cards and are not over the moon having a “best dad” mug in a cupboard. To my mind, all those gifts that are appropriate for this holiday can be bought without all those marketing tricks.

You are right about a fishing trip. For most dads, this will be the best gift ever. However, a good TV to watch his favorite sports can compete for the first place on the list. Anyway, you better take into account the preferences of your dad instead of believing manufacturers and marketers.
