The big bang was a one time event preceding the origin of our species, about 13.7 billion years ago. The earth was not formed until about 4.5 billion years ago, a good 9.2 billion years after the big bang. Life appeared on earth shortly after its formation, within the first billion years. Multicellular life, however, is only of about 600 to 700 million years old. Our species, then, is traced back to a mere 200,000 years or so. We have not been around for a long time. Our last concern, if we are still here, then, will be the heat death of the universe. This is going to be very different from that of the big bang.
