D. More Americans were now able to move to the suburbs. The growth of the population after World War II was the cause of the expansion of the cities to the suburbs. The prices of the houses in the suburbs were more affordable to middle class families, due to the decrease of the prices of the land and new building practices such as tract housing. With the growth of the suburbs, the improvement of roads became a priority. The Federal-Aid Highway Act passed in 1956, advanced, and allowed a greater growth of the suburbs that surround the city centres.
