Sharecropping is a system in which one individual rents the land of a plantation/farm owner. In contrast, the individual must give the owner of the plantation of some of their crops as a form of payment. After paying for the land, the person who rents the land you can keep the excess goods/resources. This system was very popular in the united States after the Civil War. This is because many of the newly freed slaves were skilled in agriculture, and that he needed a way to survive.
