The result of successful communication between Rhizobia and their host plant is a symbiotic relationship. The rhizobia creates specialized structures called nodules. In these structures, the bacteria converts the nitrogen into ammonia through a process called nitrogen fixation. The host plant then uses ammonium as a nitrogen source.
