There are so many of the titles of the tasks involved in film -- documentary or other -- that a person can be assigned to any title. Smart of the producers of the film -- usually assigned to the funding and payment of bills -- assign titles to people qualified to deliver the results expected from the title. The term "documentary" is more likely earned a title, because a body of work. For example, you could call Ken Burns, a "documentary" type. An apprentice storyteller has chosen to tell non-fiction stories in the cinema could choose the title proper, depending on the tasks that the narrator makes.
