What is student finance?

Does anyone have any concrete information on student finance? I currently reside in England and will be joining university next year. My main challenge has been accessing student money. I really need it to pay for my university tuition and living costs.

Additionally, I would like to know if there is a service that offers travel grants for students. England is so expensive and moving around during studies can dent my meek finances in a major way.

Finally, please provide a recommendation of other sources of student funding UK. This will be of much help.

Thank you.

Student financing is a UK government service that enables you to borrow money to meet your education and lifestyle expenses. It also provides additional money to people in dire financial situations or with disabilities.

Getting students money requires that you follow some basic guidelines of course. Therefore, be sure to read the terms and conditions for the appropriate academic year.

People from England, such as you, are eligible to apply for 2017 to 2018 academic year.  Try to apply by 31 December 2017. However, kindly note that you are eligible to apply up to nine months after the start of your academic year. The following are the loans you are eligible to apply:

  • Maintenance Loans and
  • Tuition Fee Loans

How to apply: (New students coming from England)

  • Go to studentfinanceengland
  • Click on create account
  • Log in to your account and finish the application.
  • Please input your household income if required. Bear in mind that your partner and parent will be required to validate this information if applicable.
  • Submit your proof of identity, when prompted to do so.
  • Sign and submit the loan declaration. You will receive this in six weeks

In case you have trouble applying online, use the form finder. For those who cannot use computers without assistance, feel free to contact Student Finance England.

You are eligible for a student travel grant if:

  1. You are undertaking your studies in a foreign country. You also qualify if you are on an Erasmus work placement or Erasmus study abroad.
  2. You are pursuing medical and dental studies or participating in a clinical placement anywhere in the UK.

The good news here is you do not have to pay back a travel grant!

Below is a recommendation of other sources of student funding in the UK:

International Organizations

Several cross-border organizations provide student aid. They include:

  • The United Nations
  • World Health Organization
  • Fulbright Commission
  • World Council of Churches
  • Soros Foundation

Note that, for consideration by some of these organizations, you ought to be in your home country at the time of application. They are often very competitive so make appropriate preparations before applying.

Universities and colleges in the UK

Universities and colleges in the UK provide student scholarships and living cost fees to outstanding performers and students in dire need.

Private Organizations

Such private organizations include these:

This is a very good answer.

I want to recommend some more places you can get student funding in the UK. They include:

Our country: Most people do not know that your local government can be a source of student funding. Moreover, through their websites you can be able to access other places that they recommend for this.

Moreover, identify some of the major companies in the UK and inquire about study financing. You might be surprised to find that they have been at it for longer than ever imagined. The catch for most of these companies is that you might be required to work for them or in the country after you finish your studies.

Scholarships: Various schools, companies, programs etc. offer scholarships to students who are joining university or furthering their studies. These scholarships are often on a competitive basis. It is imperative you give them your best.
