Teddy Roosevelt ran as a third party candidate in 1912, after having lost his party's approval. However, he went on to win more votes than Taft, the Republican candidate. Thus, all party primaries, it soon became more democratic, were the members of the party voted for their candidate, not just party elites. Also, Lincoln and the Republican party were a third party in the Antebellum era. Therefore, its part of the agenda had a direct influence on the nation after Lincoln was elected.
