What is a possible drawback to direct democracy? How might it be resolved

Direct democracy would be extremely costly because people would have to vote on every single thing, and the same will have a cost in time and money to ensure that everyone has voted. Could not be resolved in the first few times, but perhaps with the age of the technology that could be overcome by having everyone vote on line or something similar.
