If you are in a restricted space, such as a can of soda. The molecules begin to bounce off the wall. This in turn is creating heat and pressure energy. If heat or pressure is unstable simply explode. This is due to the fact that the limited space of the molecules or particles can go. Now, if the substance is non aqueous (without water, solid or powder) if you heat to a certain point, it could change the chemical structure of the chemical substance.
