This is an acronym that is explained below. The TPCASTT method can be used as a format to write a brief analysis of an essay on a poem. Depends on what you can find in the poem, what the words say, and how poetic devices enhance the meaning.
*Title--Think about the meaning of the title before reading the poem.
*Paraphrase--Translate the poem into your own words.
*Connotation-Look for the meaning in the poem beyond the paraphrase by finding all the poetic devices such as alliteration, onomatopoeia, rhythm, rhyme, simile, metaphor, personification, symbolism, diction, point of view, etc
*Attitude--What is the speaker's tone? What is the poet's tone? (May not be the same.)
*Turns--signal changes in the person who is speaking or the tone.
*Title--Think of the title again. Has the meaning that the title was changed after studying the poem?
*Theme - What is the poet trying to say? The idea is that it communicates? (It is NOT what happened in the poem!)Tp Casst means:Titleparaphraseconnotationattitudeshift in toneSpeakerTheme
