The Social identity theory suggest that team work will increase your efficiency by recognizing individual effort and that the majority of the efficient teams are composed of members that have a strong social identity is shared. It is a theory of Tajfel and Turner, which explains that part of a person's self-concept comes from the groups to which it belongs.
