What does it mean if he is in jail and never writes back when you write to him?

I could say a lot of things.. often, the person in prison, is to live a life different from the life that he lived outside the prison and it is difficult for them to deal with loved ones that are still living that life. It is difficult for them to think outside because it makes them think about everything you are missing. Often, there is a lot of shame for being incarcerated, you don't want your loved ones to see it that way. Life in prison is different from life on the outside and sometimes it's just hard to communicate to those in the other, because it comes from two very different places.
