The acronym DOWNTIME in reference to the LEAN methodology means Defects, Overproduction, Waiting, Non-utilized Resources of Talent, Transportation, Inventory, excess Movement of the wastes and Excess processing. The IDLE time is a way to easily remember the 8 wastes of manufacturing. It is one of the many acronyms to relate the 7 or 8 wastes in LEAN methodology.
