I think the answer is: FoodIn the Spanish culture, not inherent in the belief that the spirit of the dead could very much influence the fortune of the life. Putting food on the graves are believed to be perceived by the dead as a form of respect and peace and able to avoid the evil spirit of the cause of the misfortune.
