What do Harvard online services have to offer?

I have to visit Harvard online services if I’m to get a study scholarship. The sponsor insists that he can’t support anyone to study elsewhere. He is one of the old Ivy League graduates who doesn’t believe that proper education can be acquired anywhere else. I wonder if he has a point. What does this site have to offer that makes it better than others? Does online higher education work anyway? I would also like to know if there are any free distance learning courses, in case I miss the scholarship altogether.

Higher education online works pretty well, and many people are getting degrees by the day. Harvard services online are offered by the Harvard Extension School. It is one of the best places to take your studies online, and yes, it has the big Ivy League name behind it. Here are a few things you need to know.

  1. The extension school uses three types of approaches to offer courses: evening classes, weekend classes (both on campus), and video lessons online. Through these methods, they offer undergraduate certificates, undergraduate degrees and graduate degrees. The courses are available to any adult who wants to study. However, before starting on a degree course, you have to prove your abilities and commitment, through preliminary online classes. There are some 800 courses to choose from, so you should not fail to find out what suits you.
  2. It will cost you between $1500 and $2700 for four-credit courses. The degree courses cost more, but the good news is that you may get scholarships when you qualify for them.
  3. The program is flexible enough to meet your needs, especially when you are working and studying at the same time. The video classes online are offered by Harvard professors, who insist on the highest quality tuition, in keeping with the high standards the university is renowned for. However, the very same high standards are expected of the students as well. Lack of total commitment and a convincing performance on your side with thus not take you anywhere.
  4. The university will provide you with great learning support, including a well-resourced library online. It is not often that you get such resources at your disposal while studying online, at no additional cost. You can use these resources well to get the best out of the program.
  5. As for distance learning courses offered free, there are a number of those as well. You can find some of them at Edx. However, I should warn you straight away that they are only certificate courses. Some of them even issue no certificates at all. You will not find any serious degree courses for free. So you might as well forget about that as a viable alternative. If your intention is simply to learn, then these sites can be of great benefit to you. Conversely, if you intend to get a recognizable qualification from all your efforts, then you pay.

The Harvard online services adhere to the strict high standards for which the university is renowned. Once you register for a course there, you must be ready to work hard, to achieve your intended goals. The university has no qualms about discontinuing anyone who does not keep to the straight and narrow. It is true that the avail to you the help you will need, in terms of tuition and resources, but you must be a great achiever yourself. Your future as a student will thus depend on what you have identified as your goal while joining the university. About free sites, I think you should just forget about them. They offer basic learning, and that is all. Some of them also offer a few introductory lessons for free to lure you in. Once you enlist, then they start asking you for money in bits until you pay in full.
