What are the perks of working for the Minnesota Department of Education?

I have realized that many great educators in my local area work for either New Jersey Department of Education or Minnesota Department of Education. This is quite fascinating for me because I have always assumed a great educator would benefit more from working at a higher institution of learning. This has led me to wonder whether or not there are perks of working for education departments compared to offering student education services in higher institutions of learning. What are the best perks of working for departments of education in different states?

There are numerous benefits one gets from working for the education department of New Jersey, the education department of Minnesota and other state departments. These include:

  • Good pay: One of the reasons a great educator would choose to render services for a government department as opposed to being a teacher is the pay. Employees in the education department are paid better than teachers. Therefore, it is only natural for a qualifying candidate to choose tis job over being a teacher.
  • Flexible working schedules: Unlike education of students, working for the government departments offers one very flexible working schedules. You can choose to work for a few days by increasing the number of hours you work in a day or vary your work hours. This is something you cannot do as a teacher. As a teacher, you have to follow the set timetable and be available when needed at all times.
  • Telecommuting: An employee of the department of education can choose to work from home or at a telecommuting centre. This is a perk you cannot enjoy as a teacher. Every teacher must attend their classes every single day.
  • Leave: Employees of the department enjoy 13-26 leave days annually and 13 sick leaves where they get to take care of themselves and their family members.
  • Life Insurance: Education department employees are given the opportunity to purchase life insurance and choose from different types of coverage for themselves and their family members.
  • Health Insurance: There are a lot of insurance covers to choose from and the best thing is the fact that the employees are not required to have pre-certification.
  • Retirement: Employees of the education department are assured of a secured department and different investment options when they retire.
  • Transit Benefit: The department of education provides transit benefits of up to $100 every month to all employees who use mass transit options as their means of transportation.

As you can see, there are plenty of reasons why educators would choose to work for the department of education as opposed to being a teacher in the private or public sector. However, getting a job in the department is not as easy as it sounds. Recruiters look for people who are highly qualified and have a lot of experience to offer required services in the department. Therefore, if you are thinking of looking for a job in the department it might be a good idea for you to get some experience and required training to better your chances of being accepted for the job.

Working for Minnesota Department of Education or any other department of education is probably one of the best decisions you can make. This is because there are plenty of benefits you get from working for this department. One of the best things about jobs at the education department is the fact that you will have better job security compared to working in the private industry. When working in the private industry, you do not have assured job security. Anything can happen like downsizing and bankruptcy that might lead to you losing your job. This is highly unlikely when you are working for the government. However, although there are so many perks of working for the government there aren’t so many opportunities for growth. In most cases, you will be doing the same thing throughout your career unless you choose to leave and do something different. Therefore, if you are looking for a job that will challenge you and enable you to grow, it might not be the best choice.
