This theory classifies the factors needed to motivate people into two categories: hygiene factors and motivation factors. Hygiene factors are necessary for motivation, but not enough; they do not bring satisfaction, but prevent dissatisfaction. Some examples are the accidents of work; company policies; level of supervision or ownership of the tasks assigned to them; the relationship with the superiors, subordinates and peers; and working conditions. Motivation factors are factors that add (or increase) in job satisfaction. Some examples are challenging work assignment, opportunities for career advancement and accomplishments, opportunity for growth, sense of responsibility and recognition.
