What are the advantages and disadvantages of home school programs?

I have been considering home school programs as an option to continue my education. The thing is, I recently watched this video made by Prince Ea called “I just sued the school system” in which he described the disadvantages of the modern educational system. It got me thinking about today’s poor learning conditions. It is nearly impossible to find a school that would really fit you. Even the special education schools, which are supposed to be tailored to every student’s individuality, do not satisfy their needs. And I started asking myself — what am I doing sitting in a classroom set up in a typical “desk facing forward” arrangement when I can receive quality education right at home and spend all of the saved time on more useful things! I do not want to wait for the government to change the system — it will take forever. That is why I decided to give home schooling a try. What do youthink?

I have a lot of experience in home schooling programs. I understand the frustration with our school system you felt after watching that video where a guy is trying to sue the school system. I believe it has been popular for a while now. However, when it comes to your education, it is important to make an informed decision based on facts rather than emotions.

The advantages and disadvantages of home schooling are different for everyone as every student is home-schooled for different reasons. The benefits and challenges you will have with home schooling might differ from those experienced by a student with learning difficulties who has to stay at home. For you, the best things about being home schooled might be not having to follow a strict timetable and being home most of the time. However, for an ill student, staying at home may be a great disadvantage because they might want the chance to interact with other students and leave the house for a change.

I will try to answer your question the best way I can based on the experience I have personally had and some of the feedback I have received from home-schooled students.

Advantages of home schooling

  • Teaching is tailored to your needs because you are taught alone.
  • You get to sleep in since you do not need to catch the bus to school.
  • There is a variety of options nowadays, and you can find the school program you like.
  • There is no need to follow a dress code.
  • The food is better.
  • You are not confined in a classroom.
  • There is zero chance of bullying.
  • You get to work at your own pace, which might not be the case even with a special education school where teachers have to teach many students.
  • The schedule is flexible.

Disadvantages of home schooling

  • It’s harder to skip school due to sickness.
  • Parents are stricter than teachers, especially on performance.
  • You miss out on school experiences like riding the bus, eating with friends, and P.E.
  • You might not get involved in sports.
  • You have fewer socialization opportunities.

If you are considering home schooling, you should look at an in-depth description of the advantages and disadvantages so that you can make an informed decision.

I would not encourage you to go through home school programs. As a student, you would really miss out on a lot of social experiences. Moreover, you might not get the same quality of education you would at school, especially if your parents are not trained teachers. Another challenge you might face is not spending as much time as you should on studying because home schooling provides a lot of free time and it is not as well-structured as school programs. I would suggest you focus on the positive things our educational systems gives you and stay on track with your studies. If you do not attend school, you may never learn how to interact with peers and people of authority, find necessary information, solve problems, etc. Even if 10 years from now you do not remember anything you learned at school, it is still important to learn how to learn! That is exactly what a school does.
