A variable cost is a cost that varies depending on the level of output (volume of production or services rendered). Examples of variable costs in the operation of a flower shop are: the cost of shipping will vary because it depends on the amount of flowers that will be ordered. Also of direct materials (as materials of decoration) will vary, depending on the number of buyed flowers.
