In the native culture, oral literature is very important, that is the way many of their myths, stories and legends that have been passed down. While obtaining my Degree in Traditional English, I found it very interesting to compare the literature with written literature. I have found that most of the oral literature (including the stories of the children who were meant to be read aloud) depends largely on the speaker and how it is delivered. This includes the volume, the intonation, breathing, pauses, and speed. As an educator, I find oral literature very effective with students, especially those with a disability, literacy. Even the children who only have difficulties with reading to enjoy the oral literature. They are able to participate and learn with the rest of the class. I consider oral literature to have an element of performance, which can gain the interest of an audience.
