A beam is a plane or a diagonal line that is used to attach several consecutive notes (and of irregular shape rests) to designate rhythmic grouping. The rhythmic value can be determined through a number of the notes. A beam is 8 note, 2 is 16, 3 is 32nd, etc, in other words, the first beam touching the stem.
