The development of the Internet dates back to ARPANET. ARPANET stands for Advanced Research Projects Agency Network. It was an experimental team packet-switched network made by and for the U.S. Department of Defense, in the 1960s. The network is used to connect computers at the Pentagon-funded research institutions over the telephone lines.
