In this part of the poem, "The man who Listens to the Album," Collins is making reference to how the narrator is so intertwined with the music that is listened to through the earphones that the person and the band be heard can be considered as a unit. A possible interpretation of these lines is the message that the music has such a unique ability to be uplifting and increase the confidence that one could considers himself or herself to the proverbial center of the universe.
