Spring tides:New and Full Moon MoonThe sun, Earth, and Moon are all more or less in the same line. The gravitational effects of the sun and the moon work in the same direction, bringing more high tides and low low tides.Neap tides:First and Third Quarter Moon(a week after the New Moon and one week after the Full Moon), the sun, Earth and Moon form a right angle. The gravitational effects of the sun and moon working through each one of the others, bringing high tides that are not as high and low tides that are not so low. There are a couple of gravitational forces trying to pull the Earth and the Sun together, and another pair of gravitational forces trying to pull the Earth and the Moon together. So the oceans of the Earth are attracted towards the Sun and the Moon.
