The single phase transformer works on the principle of mutual induction. Explanation: When an alternating voltage V 1 is applied to a primary winding, an alternating current I 1 flows in the production of an alternating flux in the core. According to Faraday's law of electromagnetic induction, an emf e 1 is induced in the primary winding. Where N1 is the number of turns in the primary winding of the emf induced in the primary winding is nearly equal and opposite to the applied voltage V 1
