This can be the contour ploughing or terraces. Contour plowing is used in the developed countries in the hills are not so steep that a plow cannot be driven in them. The terraces is an age-old traditional practice of land use on very steep slopes that would otherwise not be abke to support agriculture. Beautiful rice terrace can be found in China and Thailand.
