In a hard disk each track is divided into invisible wedge-shaped sections called sectors. The sector is a subdivision of a track on the hard disk that can be 512, 2048, or 4096 bytes large. A sector which is also known as a block. It is usually made up of three parts: the sector header, error correction code (ECC), and the area that actually stores the data.
