SSI is not a line of credit or a salary. Supplemental security Income (SSI) is a Federal income supplement program funded by general tax revenues (not Social Security taxes). It was designed to help the elderly, blind and/or disabled people who have little or no income. The intention is to provide cash to meet basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter. This money comes from taxpayers and is not "free money". One cannot borrow against it as a loan or credit card.
