Most of the charged particles from the sun are deflected around the earth by the magnetic field of the Earth.In the interior of the Earth is molten core. High percentage of the core is made of iron. This iron rotates around the center and create the magnetic field. This field stretches out of the Earth in space. That surrounds the Earth and protects it from the charged particles. These particles are deflected to the magnetic poles and create lights in the atmosphere to react with the gases in the atmosphere. At the north magnetic pole that we can see the northern lights (aurora borealis) and south magnetic pole we may see the southern lights (aurora australis).
