Is there a correlation between the Puppies of Chicago and the Chicago Bears, the names of the teams, as both the Bears?

Yes. When NFL Decatur Staleys moved to Chicago in 1921, he played his games at home, Cubs Park (now known as the stadium "Wrigley field"). George Halas changed the name of the computer to the BEArs in 1922 as a tribute to the Puppies. Legend has it that the reason for your choice of Bears as the new nickname was that if baseball players were Puppies, because the players were larger, football players were Bears.
