Is it a good idea to get MS degree online?

I want to pursue a masters degree in education. However, none of the universities in my area provide the MS degree I want to pursue. It is impossible for me to relocate because I have a full-time job. The only option I have is to pursue my degree from accredited online universities. I have done some research and I have made a list of masters degree institutions I can join. However, I am not sure whether or not I am making the right choice. I have never done online learning before. Is it a good idea?

It is not easy to decide to go back to school when you already have a full-time job. On one hand, an education master degree will open doors to better-paying jobs and help you advance your career. However, you still have obligations to your employer and your family. You cannot just get up and leave for school. Online accredited universities might seem like a great choice but you have to wonder whether there are any downsides to getting your M S degree online.

Getting your masters from an online master’s degree institution is a good idea because it has so many benefits. First and foremost, you get to keep your job. This is possible because, with online learning, you get to choose when to take your classes. You can take them before going to work or when you are done with work.

The other great benefit of online learning is that you do not have to relocate. You can learn from the comfort of your own home. What’s even better is that you can choose to study at an institution based across the world. This is possible because all your lessons will be provided online. Therefore, if you have your eye on one of the best institutions such as Harvard and you cannot afford to move, online learning will make it possible for you to attend your university of choice.

You also get to save a lot of money by doing online learning. Since you will not be required to go to the campus, you will save on transportation costs and also housing costs because you will not be living in the institution. This is great especially if you do not want to spend a lot of money when doing your masters.

When you are studying online, you also get to make worldwide connections. Numerous people from different parts of the world pursue their masters online. This means you have a chance of making a lot of friends online. This can be very beneficial for networking purposes. You might also get to learn a lot about different countries and appreciate different cultures. This is something you do not always get in all brick and mortar institutions.

The pros outweigh the cons when it comes to online learning. It might not be the conventional way to get your master’s degree but you can be assured that the quality of education will be the same as long as you choose a good accredited institution.

I do not think it is a good idea to get MS degree online. I say this because online programs require a lot of discipline.  You decide when to take the classes, when to do your assignments and whether or not to participate in discussion forums. If you are not very disciplined, you might end up wasting all your money on the program. I also believe it is not a good idea because you do not get to utilize all the resources that you would if you were attending a brick and mortar institution. You will not have access to a library, a research center or any other resource. This means you might not get the same quality of education as other students attending brick and mortar institutions. Last but not least, online learning is extremely boring. You never interact with anyone in person which can be hard especially when you are experiencing challenges with your study material and you need help.
