A square is a special type of rectangle because its characteristics are the same characteristics that require a polygon to be classified as less of a rectangle: You must have 2 lines of symmetry, have 4 right angles, have two sets of parallel lines, and two sets of congruent sides. A square has all of that. It is special because its diagonals bisect each other. It has 4 congruent sides as well.
