If my employee started a competitive business with a client of my company while still employed and also made active their business website while employed do I have a strong case?

Hard question to answer - there is not enough information. However, consider the following: do you have a work contract with him? It included a "no competition" clause? Did he take some kind of "ownership of information" (ie: privileged information or trade secrets about his or her company along with him when he was? You will be able to get your new mployer to cooperate if you file a lawsuit? If your suit is successful it will recover enough of him to make that worthwhile? You should probably consult with a lawyer.
