I am looking for effective motivation techniques that I can use in my everyday life, do you guys know of any?

I’m currently in my sophomore year of college but I’m finding it hard to focus on my subjects everyday. I feel so overwhelmed with all the things that I need to do, and I also feel a lot of pressure from my parents to do well. Right now it seems like I am at zero on the motivation scale and really need a lot of help in terms of my self motivation skills. Do you know of any motivation techniques that can probably help someone like me?

Every now and then, I do feel the same as you, and on the scale of motivation do feel myself falling at zero as well. There really are days, and sometimes even weeks and months like these that you feel like you can’t even get up in the morning and just can’t find the motivation skills for yourself to get things done.

First things first I think, is to start your day right. You know it’s always said that a good day starts with a good morning, and I do believe that starting your day right can really make a difference in how your entire day pans out. Also, things work differently for different people, some people find that having a good run so early in the day helps to pick them up, while some turn to a meditation practice so that they become focused in what they need to do for the rest of the day.

Techniques for motivation honestly work for different people, so you just have to find one that works for you. Whether you’re more of an active type or a quiet type, you can even do both if you feel like you need that balance in your life. Some people actually meditate before exercising, while some do it the other way around.

Another tip I can give you for motivating yourself is to try bullet journaling. You say that right now most of what you feel is being overwhelmed by all the things that you need to, so what you can do is to list down all the things that you need to accomplish within the day or week and separate them into bite-sized actionable items. This helps you prioritize and focus, while showing you your own progress in terms of the tasks that you need to do.  Maybe you can also identify which areas in your life are giving you the most difficulty, so when you are able to pinpoint these pain areas, you can work through the things you need to do to resolve the stress that this area of your life is causing you. Pretty soon you’ll find yourself feeling better about the things that used to stress you.

One of the things that really helped me when I was also feeling overwhelmed by all the pressures in life was doing yoga and swimming regularly. People do really have different motivation techniques and for me, I found that it was easier to get motivated when I was more active and moving around. Yoga was a really good self-motivator because it helped me focus on my breathing which in turn also helped me to pay more attention to my surroundings. Being present can help you from feeling too overwhelmed because you are able to pay more attention to the things that are happening all around you.

There really will be bad days and you just have to remember not to be too hard on yourself as well. It’s bad enough that you are feeling the pressure from your parents and other people around you, so don’t add to the pressure by doing the same to yourself.

Self-motivation skills are a fundamental basis for a happy and prosperous life. Individuals who are self-motivated tend to have stable self-esteem unlike those who don’t  motivate themselves.

These are some of the main steps that are core in self-motivation. These motivation techniques have helped me as an individual, and they can help you too.

Set goals - When you have goals, you have something to strive for.

Create a positive workplace – Eliminate conflict when it arises and give yourself freedom to work less when necessary.
