How to be the best version of yourself?

I have had the phrase ‘be the best version of yourself’ numerous times but I have never understood its meaning fully. I am the kind of person who is a different version of herself depending on the situation I am in. For instance, I am not the same person when I am at home ao when I am in the workplace or while hanging out with my friends. How can I tell which version is the best and is it even possible? If it is, how can I improve and which self improvement goals will get me there?

I personally don’t believe in being the best version of yourself. I believe that the personality that makes you feel confident and comfortable in your own skin is the best version of yourself and this normally depends on the situation you are in. For instance, if you are spending time with family, you have the freedom to let loose without the fear of judgment and you can do all the goofy things you’d probably not do in the workplace. In such a situation, this is the best version of yourself.

I also think that there is a lot of pressure from the society to be perfect hence the use of the term ’best version’. We live in a world where people share their everyday life on social media. In most cases, when you look at most of the pictures on social media, people look like they are having the time of their life and conquering every goal they set. They look like they are being the ‘best version’ of themselves. When people compare these Facebook, Instagram and Twitter lives to their own, they feel like they fall short and suddenly, the need to set goals for self-improvement arises. Therefore, I wouldn’t encourage you to go on a quest to find the best version of yourself because you already have it in you. It is just that it is different depending on which situation you are in. Apart from this, your best version is not what other people expect it to be but who you are comfortable with. Therefore, do not feel the need to go overboard to find your ‘best version’. Be you and stay true to yourself and you will truly be happy with you are.

However, this does not mean that you should not make an effort to be better. The fact that you asked the question ‘can I improve and how?’ shows that you are open to the idea of improving for the better. Therefore, take some time to identify some of the habits that hold you back and begin working on them one at a time. It might not happen overnight but it will happen eventually if you are consistent with it. It might also help to learn new skills you have been postponing. It will improve you as a persona and it will enable you to identify new passions that will enrich your life.

I disagree. I think it is possible to be the best version of yourself because everyone has the potential to change into a better person by letting go of bad habits and embracing new ones. For instance, if you are the kind of person who finds it hard to get along with people, you can make a decision to do better by trying to get along with the people around you. When you start doing so, you will become the best version of yourself not only because other people will like the person you have become but also because you will love and appreciate yourself more. On how to go about becoming the best version of yourself, I think the only formula is to work on your weaknesses and commit to becoming a better person. However, be patient with yourself and forgive yourself whenever you go back to your old ways.
