Impedance (Z) = Resistance (R) + Reactance (X) Resistance is real. The reactance is imaginary. Z = R + jX An ideal capacitor has only the reactance. Z = 0 + jX Reactance of a capacitor is given by X = 1/(jwc). Where: Angular frequency (w) = 2*pi*frequency Capacitance (C) = 12 microfarads (uF) in our case Z = 1/( j*2*pi*100 Hz*10^-6 uF ) = 13.26/j uF = j13.26/( j*j ) uF = -j13.26 uF
