Read the excerpt from "Mother Tongue." Lately, I’ve been giving more thought to the kind of English my mother speaks. Like others, I have described it to people as “broken” or “fractured” English. But I wince when I say that. It has always bothered me that I can think of no other way to describe it other than “broken,” as if it were damaged and needed to be fixed, as if it lacked a certain wholeness and soundness. How does Tan build a central idea of her story in the excerpt? Tan discusses her thoughts about language to build the idea that the English language does not have words to match some Chinese terms. Tan discusses her relationship with her mother to build the idea that mothers and daughters in all cultures often have misunderstandings. Tan discusses her mother’s use of English to build the idea that a form of language can be purposeful and meaningful even if it is nonstandard. Tan discusses the English language to build the idea that there is a lack of appropriate synonyms for the word “broken.”

I think that it depends on. Many of my friends from the home education work at least 2-3 hours a day for five days a week, and others work for 5-6 hours a day, three days a week, etc. Other homeschooling families in making school a hands-on part of everyday life, so that the students are "in school" almost 24/7. ;-) It really depends on the amount of work which the father deems it appropriate to assign, what kind of work the father assigned him, and by the speed at which the child/children can work. I am home and will be a Jr in high shool. I do my school quite a lot in my free time because I am very busy. I would say that I work in my school in average of 6 hours a day. (five days a week) What it really boils down to is that if I have all my assigned work done, rather than how much time I devote to it. For example, it may take me an hour to do my math a day, but the next day it takes me two hours. That is why the time varies so much. It just depends on the student. A guideline is 4.5 hours max. Miz I homeschool my 7 children 7 hours. I guess with 7 kids, you only have to do the job and for me the only way to do this is to wxtend our school for an hour.
