There are some reasons of how the Mercury got his ice frozen. It is very possible that the Planet Mercury has frozen because you do not have the atmosphere, which means, that you can't trap in the heat. As said the planet in orbit around the sun, some of their areas within deep craters do not receive direct sunlight. These in cold areas, have been constants up to thousands of millions of years, which allowed the first ice to be deposited and preserved in spite of the sayings of the planet proximity to the sun. The ice may also have been brought to the planet by some the comets that fall from the space outside of the solar system.
