So that the absolute value of a number is simply the positive value of a given number. (In our basic number system each number has both a positive and negative value such as -6 and 6). If you are dealing with the basic numbers, simply drop the negative sign if there is one, or leave the number, if there is not, and has the absolute value. |x| means the absolute value, So |-6| = 6 and |5| = 5 So while -6 is less than 5, |6| (absolute value of -6) is greater than 5 :)
